The Research Center for Human-Animal Interaction at the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine has several community programs for seniors http://rechai.missouri.edu/cp.htm. Pet ownership has been found to lower blood pressure, encourage exercise and improve psychological health. Supporting pet ownership in the senior community is a great strategy for improving community health. It takes commitment and support to keep pets as one ages. Would love to hear how your community is helping seniors keep this important relationship in their lives.
